Nitro and Mickey

Nitro (previously Cubby) joined our family back in March 2009. The last year and a half with him has been a joy. He has become a member of the family that puts a smile on everyone's face. He is loving, playful, and an amazing cuddle buddy. He also has gained two new pals, Mickey and Dakota, our two other dogs. Even though the other two dogs are bigger, Nitro definitely isn't shy to play with them and they have become lifelong friends. Nitro enjoys walks and always thinks he can catch the bunnies running around the neighborhood. He is a quick learner and never barks, which is a nice change compared to the other dogs. He has gone on our family vacations and has truly left paw prints on all of our hearts.

In Addition to Nitro (mentioned above), Mickey was also adopted from Help Save Pets about 3 years ago. He is one of the big boys and is a bed hog but is one you can easily move over and cuddle with. He makes little grunts when you hug or cuddle with him, which we like to call his dog purr. He loves to run outside in our fenced backyard and play with the the other dogs or just lay in the grass. He likes to "speak" every time he hears the phone ring, which we think is funny since he doesn't mind the doorbell. Although he doesn't give kisses (we don't think he knows how, every time he tries he bites your nose, which we think is funny and cute! ) he loves getting kisses and putting his paws on your shoulders for hugs.

Both of these dogs have become members of the family that will remain in our hearts forever. Thank you these amazing additions to our family.

Sugar

I wanted to update you on Sugar's progress in her new home since we adopted her July 2010. She has fit in nicely and after just one week, she is barking/defending her new territory! She loves going on walks and chasing birds and rabbits and even moths. Everyone thinks she is a puppy because she is so small and cute! Thank you for saving her and bringing her into our lives. She has fit right into our family!

Miley

We adopted Miley (named Wynona at the shelter) in Sept. of 09. She immediately fit right into our family. She listens to all commands, except when a rabbit is present. :) We were going crazy trying to figure out her breed. The shelter had her listed as a basset hound/schnauzer mix. Well, we decided to do the DNA testing and were we shocked. I had the woman run it twice. She is 1/2 Golden Retriever (stop laughing), 1/4 German Shepard (really, stop laughing) and 1/4 Standard Schnauzer, Maltese, and Wheaton Terrier. Needless to say, when someone asks us while we are out on a walk, we just say a mutt. If they want to hear a fun story, we give them the list, they shake their heads, and we continue on.

Miley has been such a joy this past year. We have two kids, 5 and 7 and they love her so much. She feels like she has been with us forever. We are truly blessed to have her in our lives. Thanks to all the people at the Animal Care Center in Plainfield, we LOVE her.

Toby

I just wanted to let you know that the black cat you called Kermit, who we adopted on May 21, is doing great. His name is now Toby and he's an absolutely wonderful cat, one of the most affectionate we've ever had. He moved right in and after a few days of uncertainty he and our Collie Nellie and our Golden Retriever Sophie are like old friends. Our only concern is his fascination with our 2 parrots, they're not afraid of him so I'm sure sooner or later his curiosity is going to result in his first confrontation with a bird which can take care of itself. They haven't called him by name yet but I'll bet that will confuse him when it happens. Thank you so much for introducing Toby to us, he's a welcome addition to our family.

Susie Q and Lady

We adopted Susie Q (she was called Hermoine) November 2009 and she has turned into the most playful and loving cat. Of course the verdict is still out on how she feels about Lady joining the family. She is getting closer to the dog and even sniffs her from time to time. I hope everyone enjoys the photos below as we surely love and enjoy our 2 "hairy" children!

Wally

I brought Gunther home in March 2010, after hearing about Help Save Pets on "Maggie and Dan in the Morning." Now I call him by his new middle name, "Wally." Wally was a little shy at first but now all of his toys are well-loved, and he spends many happy hours napping in the sun on his new bed. He's been a blessing. Thank you Help Save Pets and Star 96.7! We are a very happy little family.

Ajax

I would just like to thank you for providing what is undeniably the "best dog ever". About three weeks ago I was driving past Animal Care Center and saw the sign in front that showed "Ajax" as the pet of the week. His picture on the sign looked a bit peculiar so I decided to stop in and check him out. I was only going to look because after losing my last greyhound in November (which Dr. Buedel & Dr. Buchannan has been taking great care of for years), I decided I would never get another dog. It was just too devastating. However, after seeing Ajax's exuberant personality that thought immediately changed. I never saw a dog with such life and obvious willingness to be happy and make you happy.

The volunteers there suggested that I foster him for a week or so to see if he would work out in my home with my daughter's dog. Well that was on Saturday. On Monday I returned him with the proper paperwork to keep him forever. It only took that long to realize that he is quite possibly the "best dog ever".

Ajax has moved in and without having to show him anything, has found his place in my home. He lets us know when he has to go out. He came to bed at night and slept at the bottom of my bed as if he knew where he should be and he has slept in that spot ever since. Also, he has been going to work with me every day and loves riding in the car. In fact if I'm running a little late, he starts to get excited and tries to hurry me up. When I'm in my office doing paperwork or working on the computer, he lays in his daybed with his head on the pillow and waits for me to finish. We stop periodically during the day and go for walks in the forest preserves. That's undoubtedly his favorite part of going to work. Everyone that sees him comments on how beautiful and sweet he is. When we stop in at Petsmart, all the clerks come over to see him. They might do that for every dog but Ajax loves the attention and believes he's a celebrity. There is no question that Ajax and I will be friends forever.

Anyway, I just wanted to let you know how Ajax is doing and thank you for hooking me up with the "best dog ever".

Happy tails to all,

Tripper

I just wanted to share with you an update on a pup we adopted on September 30, 2009 from the Channahon clinic - we subsequently brought her to puppy classes in Plainfield with a great instructor. There was a guy that saw her one night at puppy class and he could not believe how active she had become in such a short time. Her adopted name was Betty and she was from Danville. Her date of birth is May 24, 2009 so she is almost 1 year old. We changed her name to Tripper and she is all legs - very happy in the yard and plays all the time with our 7 year old lab/beagle mix Barney - she is just about fully potty trained in her crate when we are not home. She knows how to sit, speak, lay down and most of the time shake. Her favorite time of the day is breakfast, lunch or dinner - she now weighs 45 pounds!!! She was soooo skinny when we adopted her and now she has really filled out. Thanks for all you do.

Mona

I am writing to thank you for Ava, now called Mona. Mona is warm, affectionate, loving and a ball full of joy! She wraps her paws around my legs and follows me wherever I walk. She wakes me every morning with nose rubs on my face and is always eager to greet me when I return home from work. Mona also gets along great with my previous cat, Ace. They act like they have known each other forever! Mona is very inquisitive and curious and always wants to see what mommy is doing (even if it means standing on top of my laptop while I am working). I have definitely fallen in love with Mona in the short period of time that I have been blessed to have her, but am already looking forward to many more days and years to come!

Thank you, Help Save Pets, for the blessing you have bestowed upon my life and for everything you are doing to help save these animals' lives!

Finn

I am writing to thank you for Pete, now called Finn. Finn is the sweetest, kindest, most loving dog I have ever met. I can't believe that I have only had him for two weeks, he seems like he has always been a part of my family. He is always happy and extremely well behaved. From day one he has enjoyed sleeping on his new bed through the night and loves when we play click games to learn new skills, he is a great student! I hate to even think of what could have been Finn's fate had your group not rescued him from Kentucky. He is just a joy and everyone who meets him falls in love with him.

I admire Help Save Pets and all of your volunteers and really respect what you are doing for these dogs. Finn is a great part of my family aleady and I couldn't imagine life without him.

Thank you again,

Jessica Boge

Tim

My family and I cannot thank you and the Help Save Pets enough. Tim, our new dog, is doing so well. He receives/gives more love than anyone could imagine, he has moved right in. He is such a wonderful dog and brings so much joy to our family, thank God we did not lose him. He is the biggest snuggly baby ever. We really got lucky with Tim, and he is the focus of our lives everyday.
